OPP K9 Catches Suspected Purse Thief


An arrest has been made in Tecumseh thanks to Essex County OPP canine "Maximus."

The OPP responded to a call on Thursday, December 5 for a theft at a gas station on County Rd. 42.

Police say a woman saw someone entering her vehicle and taking her purse while she was inside paying for her fuel.

She told police the suspect fled on foot in a northerly direction into a nearby subdivision.

According to police, officers believed the suspect was hiding in one of the backyards in the neighbourhood.

Maximus and his handler attended the scene and found the suspect hiding on the back deck of a home.

The suspect was taken into custody.

Police have charged a 23-year-old Windsor man with theft from a motor vehicle under $5,000, resist peace officer and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

The suspect did require medical attention for a dog bite injury.
