The Sport Market on Newstalk 1290

TSN 1040 - Tom Mayenknecht 2018

The Sport Market rates and debates the bulls and bears of sport business every week here on Newstalk 1290.

Join sport business commentator and host Tom Mayenknecht every Saturday from 3 p.m.-5 p.m. for a behind the scenes look at the sport business stories that matter most to fans. You’ll be connected to the major sport business stories each week, from sport broadcasting and sport management to sport merchandising and attendance. Everything in the realm of ticket prices and player contracts, legal news and collective bargaining and the intersection between sports and politics is fair game on The Sport Market. We’ll also throw in the lighter side of sport comedy, along with sport movies, sport logos and sport stadiums.

It's all hosted by Mayenknecht, who anchors The Sport Market on TSN Radio across the country. A long-time marketing executive in professional sport, Mayenknecht is a principal in Emblematica Brand Builders, a BC-based brand and business development company. He is a former executive with the Toronto Raptors – where he worked with NBA Properties in spearheading the development of the team’s name and emblem in 1994 – and Vice-President of the old Vancouver Grizzlies in 1995-1996. He spent 9 and a half years as the communications executive for Tennis Canada, the national governing body for tennis and has a series of other sport credentials, including serving as Governor of the old Vancouver Ravens of the National Lacrosse League and his work in Olympic sport with what is now Canadian Sport Institute Pacific. He was named Executive-of-the-Year in the National Lacrosse League in 2001.

Mayenknecht is a member of the Ringette Canada Hall of Fame as a builder. He won the Doug Gilbert Media Medallion awarded by the Canadian Sports Federation in 1984 for his work in Ringette. He is also a strong advocate for the KidSport and Right To Play children’s charities.
