Dallas Smith Calls Out Trolls Targeting Chrissy Teigen
Canadian country star Dallas Smith took to Twitter on Thursday to slam right-wing trolls tweeting wildly insensitive comments about Chrissy Teigen’s miscarriage.
Teigen and her husband, singer John Legend, shared their heartbreaking news on social media, describing their “deep pain” on the “darkest of days.”
Smith was shocked to read some of the reactions.
“There are people out there this morning tweeting horrible s**t at a mother who lost her baby last night,” he wrote. “These people are called heartless f**king Karens.
"Can’t imagine the pain of losing a child and having everyone pile on you. Zero empathy and zero consequences. Brutal.”
An alarming number of people accused Teigen of being a “hypocrite” for mourning the loss of her unborn child even though she is pro-life and both she and Legend have publicly supported Planned Parenthood. Some criticized the couple's decision to go public and to share such personal photos.
Smith noted: “Makes ya wonder if the world would be a much better place without this social media.”
Two other Canadian country music stars added their voices.
“There are no longer lines people won’t cross,” tweeted Meghan Patrick in response to Smith's comments. “Mocking someone’s death or torturing someone who is grieving is par for the course on the internet these days... a lot of sad, narcissistic people out there, who think the whole world needs their opinion, even when it’s that horrific.”
Gord Bamford tweeted: “Well said Dallas can’t describe in words how despicable these comments are get a f**king life and have a heart. UNREAL.”
Hopefully the vitriolic comments will be drowned out by the flood of support and sympathy Teigen and Legend are receiving from around the world – including from a long list of famous friends like Ellen DeGeneres, Kim Kardashian and The Rock.
"We love you and are here for you and your family," wrote singer Charlie Puth.
