Midland campaign to help Wasaga Beach girl walk, one battery at a time
A campaign is underway across Simcoe County to help a little girl in Wasaga Beach.
Chloe Fraser was born with a rare C-2 spinal cord injury - and the 7-year-old needs a specialized wheelchair. The new power chair - which runs about $47,000 - will allow Chloe to stand and hopefully help her develop the muscles in her core and legs that could eventually lead to walking unassisted.
The cost of the chair is not covered by government or private insurance as standing is not deemed "medically necessary" - but her parents say it will give her the ability to stand for O'Canada, stand and spin during ballet class, or just help her mom Carol with the dishes, or picking apples with her brother Carsen, without needing the help of others.
When they learned about Chloe's need, Deb Marchant from Smiles Per Hour in Midland decided to hold a fundraiser.
To that end they are collecting batteries for the family. You can drop off any kind of old battery - household, vehicle, power tool, marine etc. - at Smiles Per Hour on Hwy 93.
They will accept batteries between now and November 9, 2020.
Several other locations have also stepped up to help collect batteries. They are:
Minesing - 2090 Snow Valley Rd Hwy 11 north at Line 1
Barrie - 89 Donald Street
Orillia - 149 Mississauga St E.
Angus - 29 Vernon Street
Wasaga Beach - at the fire hall on Mosley Street or River Rd West, and at Chloe's school - St. Noel Chabanel on Ramblewood Road at 58th Street.
Alliston - Eden Grill in the Boston Pizza Plaza
Tottenham - 44 Wolfe Avenue
Beeton - New Orleans Pizza
Collingwood - 68 Campbell Street
Perkinsfield - 110 Concession 16
***Please Follow all COVID protocols - including physical distancing and wearing a mask when dropping off batteries****
The response has been overwhelming so far!

Many local organizations and businesses are working towards raising enough money - including Royal LePage Signature Sold Team, the Kinettes, and the Wasaga Beach Professional Firefighters Assocation (Chloe's dad Jason Cameron is a firefighter).
A Go Fund Me Account has also been set up to help the Family.
