MHL approves ownership changes in South Shore, Truro

The Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) has approved ownership changes for two of its Nova Scotia based teams.

In a release, the league says Dave Hinkley has been approved by the Board of Governors to take ownership of the South Shore Lumberjacks from Larry Creaser.

Hinkley has more than 20 years experience as a hockey coach and scout, and is the owner and operator of two snow crab enterprises.

The Board of Governors also approved the sale of the Truro Bearcats by founder Stu Rath to a group consisting of David Higgins, Jon Stanfield and Greg Mullen.

Higgs is a Vice-President with CIBC Wood Gundy and is an adviser with the firm in Truro, Stanfield is the current President, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Stansfield's' Ltd., and Mullen is a Managing Partner at Burchell MacDougall LLP in Truro.

The MHL says the new ownership groups have committed to keeping the teams in their current markets going forward.
