Two RCMP officers evacuated five people from a home in Boudreau Ouest before it was destroyed by fire early Friday morning.

Police say the officers were responding to an unrelated call around 3 a.m. when they spotted a vehicle on fire outside a home.

The officers attempted to alert the occupants from outside, but when they received no response, they gained entry and woke up three adults, one of whom is physically disabled, and two children, and assisted them out of the house before the fire spread to the home.

The Canadian Red Cross says the bungalow suffered damage in the fire, but there were no injuries, and volunteers assisted the occupants with emergency lodging and meals.

Police and the Office of the Fire Marshall are investigating the cause of the fire.
