The City has announced the inaugural Mayor's Arts Awards.

The new recognition program is meant to celebrate artistic achievement and support for and contributions to the arts.

Mayor Bryan Paterson says he is thrilled with the inaugural launch of the Mayor's Arts Awards.

""This is a special program meant to recognize those in the community who have advanced the arts in our city. I look forward to honouring the individuals selected by the committee who champion the arts in Kingston and contribute to the vitality of our community!"

Nominations of award recipients will be made through the City's arts advisory committee that will establish a Nominations Working Group (NWG) every year.

This year's committee includes councillor Jim Neill along with Barbara Bell, Bob Brooks and Jane Karges from the arts advisory committee along with community members Jan Allen, Georgina Riel and Pierre-Luc Landry.

The 2017 Mayor's Arts Awards will be handed out this fall.
