Environment Canada has issued a Special Air Quality statement for Nova Scotia.

The weather agency says smoke from forest fires in Central Canada will move into the western mainland on Wednesday and will persist into Thursday afternoon.

Smoke from the plume may descend to the ground and cause a local reduction in air quality.

Forecasters say the smoke will spread into Cape Breton by early Thursday and will dissipate Thursday evening.
