County Requests Golden Lake Traffic Study
It's been a lot busier around Golden Lake on the weekends, and the local mayor wants something done to make a major intersection safer.
North Algona Wilberforce Mayor James Brose says there's so much traffic heading to and from businesses on the Pikwakanagan First Nation, it's creating safety concerns at the busy intersection of Highway 60 and Lake Dore Road.
He raised the issue at the August 28 meeting of Renfrew County Council, and the County has agreed to ask the MTO to do a traffic study.
Brose says this should tell them whether new lights, signals, or other controls are needed.
"Anything just to warn motorists, would be great. We all know that the traffic volumes have increased considerably", Mayor Brose told Pure Country 96.7.
"It's certainly an issue of safety with pedestrians crossing", Brose added.
The County will be making the request to the MTO in the weeks to come but there's no indication yet on any timelines for that traffic study.
"I'm glad we're moving in this direction, and I'm hoping we see some positive results. At the very least, if we could get crossing signage, and a crossing border across the road", Brose added.
