Local Cannabis Store Applications Unsuccessful
At least four Ottawa Valley-based applications for a cannabis store were unsuccessful in the province's latest lottery for store licenses.
The province chose 42 new store locations yesterday from a list of over 4,800 applicants across Ontario.
Locally, the hopefuls on the list included an application from downtown Pembroke (Dale Charles Hill, at 96 Pembroke Street West), another from Barry's Bay (Bay Bud, at 48 Bay Street) and two from Arnprior (Waldo Hordijczuk, at 106 Daniel Street N. and The Prior And Associates, at 4 Elgin Street West).
The Valley-based applications were not rejected, but were put on a "wait list", and are quite far down on that list.
Ultimately, only seven stores were chosen from the region that includes eastern and central Ontario: one in Ottawa, awarded to Ethan Stark at a business listed at 4335 Strandherd Drive in Barrhaven.
Another will be in Kawartha Lakes, near Peterborough, and the rest are in and near Barrie (Barrie, Innisfil and Collingwood).
The successful applicants can now apply for their official licences from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.
