UPDATE: Investigation Into Death Of Fort Coulonge Teen
There's been a tragic end to the search for a missing teen from Fort Coulonge.
17 year old Veronique Bourque, who was last seen in Petawawa on Monday afternoon, was found unconscious in her car on Tuesday afternoon in a ditch along Highway 148 on Allumettes Island.
The Surete Du Quebec police force confirmed the news on Tuesday evening, adding that they believe it was a single-vehicle crash.
Police say the vehicle would have been hard to spot from the highway.
"It was at least 20 metres in the ditch, so it would not have been easily found from the 148", Sgt. Marc Tessier told Pure Country 96.7.
Police say Bourque was pronounced dead in hospital, and they still aren't sure what caused her vehicle to end up in the ditch.
"For now, that's the investigation: to determine what happened, exactly. We're trying to determine the circumstances of the collision", Tessier added.
"There's a joint investigation with the Surete Du Quebec and the Coroner's Office. A blood analysis will also be done on the victim", he said.
Earlier on Tuesday, the OPP had sent out an appeal to help find Bourque after she hadn't been seen since leaving Petawawa late Monday afternoon, to return to Fort Coulonge.
Then late Tuesday afternoon, the OPP announced that Bourque had been located but didn't specify anything about her condition or her whereabouts.
Stories began to circulate on social media on Tuesday afternoon, prompting Pure Country 96.7 to reach out to authorities in both Ontario and Quebec in order to confirm the details.
