Need to Know: Landfill Winter Schedule, Fire Training, Covid Exposures

Landfill and Yard Waste Depot Winter Schedule

The City’s Fleet Street Landfill will be closed on Sunday, November 1, to switch over to the winter hours schedule.

Starting Monday, November 2, Landfill winter hours of operations are as follows:

•           Open: 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday to Saturday

•           Closed: Sundays, December 25 and January 1

Entry gates close 15 minutes prior to closing to allow vehicles to unload and exit the landfill by closing time.

The free Yard Waste Depot will remain open on Sunday, November 1, for residents to drop off their yard waste before winter. The Yard Waste Depot will then close for the season but will reopen from December 26, 2020 to January 31, 2021 for the City’s Treecycle program.

Please remember to keep a safe physical distance while dropping off waste at the Landfill and Yard Waste Depot.

Regina Airport Authority

Conducting Fire Training Today

The Regina Airport Authority (RAA) Fire Department will be conducting controlled fire training (weather permitting) this morning from approximately 5:30 am to 7:30 am.

This training may result in large plumes of smoke near the airport.

All training procedures conducted by the RAA Fire Department are regulated by Transport Canada.

Compost Your Pumpkins for a Chance to Win!

In accordance with health guidelines during the pandemic, including physical distancing, the City will not hold the Pumpkin Smash Event in 2020. But that doesn’t mean they don’t want to have a GREEN Halloween.

This year, residents that drop off their pumpkins and gourds at the Yard Waste Depot from October 30 to November 1 will be entered to win an Apple iPad and a waste reduction prize pack. All eligible residents will be entered in a random draw with the winner announced on Monday, November 2.

Pumpkins collected at the Yard Waste Depot will be composted at the City’s Food and Yard Waste Pilot processing site. By composting pumpkins, we are keeping waste out of the Landfill, reducing greenhouse emissions and creating a natural fertilizer.

Any pumpkin is can be dropped off as long as it hasn't been painted. Any decorations attached to one will need to be removed.
