Provincial Police Work Together to Stop Impaired Driver
On Sunday, September 8, OPP responded to a local business on Highway 17 in Sables-Spanish Rivers Township.
The investigation has since revealed that a call was placed to police to report an intoxicated person at a local business. The person left the business in a motor vehicle and proceeded onto Highway 17. Shortly thereafter, a member of the East Algoma Detachment located the vehicle on Highway 17 in the Town of Spanish and conducted a traffic stop. Upon speaking to the driver it was determined that the person had consumed alcohol.
As a result of the investigation, a 47-year-old from Sudbury, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River, Ontario on September 26, 2019.
The OPP reminds motorists that there is no safe amount of drug or alcohol consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver that is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
