Travel Out of Sudbury Could Be A Problem
There's an update to that special weather statement issued for Manitoulin Island and the North Shore. Environment Canada is calling for significant snowfall and local blowing snow in those areas today and strong wind gusts up to 60 km/h could produce local blowing snow reducing visibilities along highway 17 between here and the Sault and on all of Manitoulin.
It gets worse in the Toronto area and most of Southwestern Ontario. Hydro One is reporting 32,000 customers without power and major delays at Pearson Airport. Environment Canada says the Greater Toronto area will have freezing rain, ice pellets and five to 10 centimetres of snow, whipped up at times by gusty winds.
Air Canada flights to and from Sudbury have been cancelled starting with the 3:13 arrival this afternoon. So far the 1:48 Air Canada arrival and 2:10 departure are still running. Check with your travel provider before you head out.
A travel advisory has been issured for Parry Sound, with heavy snowfall expected through this evening along 69 and 400.
There's also a new power outage at Fairbanks Lake affecting 191 Hydro One customers. A crew has been dispatched to work on the problem. Power has been restored to all customers in Greater Sudbury who were impacted by Wednesday’s storm
