NHL Alumni to Hold Charity Game in Sudbury

NHLAlumni

The Garson Community Centre will play host to Hockey Day in Sudbury this afternoon.

The 2022-23 NHL Alumni Benefit Tour brings you Hockey’s Greatest Family featuring long idolized former NHL legends from the Original 6 classic teams, Stanley Cup winners, Team Canada heroes and your local hometown heroes all in support of Special Olympics Ontario and the Law Enforcement Torch Run! The NHL Alumni Tour has proudly presented hockey legends of the NHLs biggest stars of the past.

The NHL Alumni Benefit Tour celebrates the 35th anniversary of the Special Olympics and supports the Law Enforcement Torch Run’s mission “To provide year-round sports training and athletic competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities.”

NHL Alumni scheduled to appear at the game include Mark Laforest, NHL tough man Ken Belanger, two time medal winner for Team Canada and the first Washington Capital to score 100 points in a season Dennis Maruk, Edmonton Oilers enforcer Luke Gazdic, defenceman Theo “Teddy” Peckham, Sudbury's own Troy Crowder who laced up the skates with the New Jersey Devils, Los Angeles Kings, and Vancouver Canucks.

Also scheduled to be in the line-up, World Junior record holder and 500 game NHL veteran Dale McCourt who played with the Red Wings, Sabres and Leafs scoring 20 plus goals in six seasons.

All-Star and 3 time Stanley Cup Champion Mike Krushelniski.  Former Sudbury Wolves defencemean and NHLer Frank Corrado

And an 864 game NHL veteran whose number hangs from the rafters of the Sudbury Arena for his pivotal time with the Wolves, Ron Duguay

Referee for this afternoon's game will be Dave Hutchison, an aggressive defenceman that played 11 seasons in the NHL with Los Angeles, Chicago, New Jersey and the Toronto Maple Leafs racking up over 1700 penalty minutes during his pro career, so he knows how to take penalties.  We'll see if he can call them.

Doors open at 1:00PM, game starts at 2:00PM at the Garson Community Center.
