One case of COVID-19 has been confirmed at a school in Napanee within the Algonquin Lakeshore Catholic District School Board.

The Board said a student at J.J. O'Neill Catholic School had contracted the virus and that tracing is underway to determine their close contacts.

"The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board continues to work in collaboration with our local public health units and follow their direction and guidance," it said in a statement.

"All up-to-date information can be found on the Board website and public health websites. No further details will be shared in the interest of maintaining privacy of individuals in our school communities."

The school remains open Wednesday as health officials have said a student with the virus doesn't necessarily mean they were infected at school.

No outbreaks have been confirmed at schools within Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington Public Health since classes returned at the start of September. According to provincial guidelines, an outbreak is defined as "at least two confirmed cases of COVID-19 within a 14 day period, and with a link to a school setting."
