Fall prevention month: Seniors asked to take caution
The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark Health Unit is trying to raise awareness during Fall Prevention Month.
Falls are the leading cause of injury among older Canadians, and as snow begins to blanket the sidewalks and the roads get slippery, it's important to be prepared.
Alexis Green is a public health nurse with the local health unit. She says there are plenty of simple things that elderly folk can do to avoid falls, such as staying active, eating well, keeping the floors clean, and slowing down.
Green also encourages the use of safety aids, such as eye glasses, canes, and using the proper footwear in the Winter months.
