Heat warning in effect, cooling centres remain open Monday

A heat warning from Environment Canada remains in place in Kingston on Monday with the humidex expected near 36. 

The humidex could hit as a high as 40 this week, as the muggy conditions are expected to stick with Kingston until at least Friday. 

The government weather agency asks those with health concerns, children and the elderly to take extra precautions to avoid the heat, while cooling centres will remain open Monday at 362 Montreal Street and the Central Branch of the Kingston Public Library on Johnson Street from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

The humidex is expected around 39 Tuesday, while high temperatures for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are currently forecast for 31 degrees.
