New speed limit in Prescott takes effect Tuesday
Lower speed limits in the Town of Prescott officially kick in on Tuesday after a council vote last month.
Speed limits have officially been lowered to 40 km/h from 50 km/h after council approved a motion from Mayor Brett Todd at a council meeting in August.
Todd said enforcement will begin right away.
"We've got signage going up, OPP are out and present and going to try and work with people right now, but we really want them to get the point," he said.
"We want to get speeds down in town and make it a safer town for everyone, pedestrians, cyclists and all."
Todd added the move is meant to curb speeding and aggressive driving, which has been a problem within the town. Kemptville also recently moved to lower its residential speed limits to 40 km/h from 50 km/h, citing an increase of speeding complaints within the town.
