OPP ask drivers pay attention as classes resume

Police are asking drivers to pay extra attention and slow down as students return to class and more school buses now on the road.

More cars, pedestrians and cyclists are expected on area roads as schools continue to re-open and Staff Sgt. Jeremy Doolan with the East Region OPP said drivers need to take extra care and slow down in area school zones.

"And more importantly, looking out for school buses," Doolan said in an online message Tuesday morning.

"A fine for not stopping for a school bus that has its lights flashing can be $490 and six demerit point but more importantly, it puts our children's lives at risk."

Drivers should also give themselves extra commute time and be aware of more kids on city sidewalks.
