The annual Ottawa Valley Butter Tart Festival has been cancelled for this year.

The festival, scheduled to be held Oct. 18, was cancelled out of an abundance of caution by organizers with COVID-19 cases rising in the province.

The Board Directors of the Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce felt it was too risky for both vendors and the public.

"Today, the very difficult decision was made to completely cancel the event for 2020," said Lorraine MacKenzie, Executive Director of the Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce in a statement. "We hope that everyone will understand but we thought it was the responsible thing to do."

Organizers thanked sponsors and said the festival will return in 2021.
