Pop-up COVID testing centres in Perth, Merrickville

Testing

A pop-up COVID-19 testing centre will be running in Perth on Friday.

The mobile testing unit at Conlon Farm Recreation Complex on Smiths Drive from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday. The Perth clinic is running by-appointment only and reservations are being taken online through the Eventbrite website.

A second testing centre open to walk-ins will be set up in Merrickville on Saturday at the Merrickville Community Centre on Read Street from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Merrickville centre will be a drive-thru style set up by the Leeds-Grenville Paramedic Service and Chief Paramedic Chris Scott said the pop up testing units have so far performed over 1,100 tests in the past week.

"It's been nothing but a success and we've had a lot of positive reviews. We hope to continue this going forward," Scott said.

A mask, driver's license and health care are required for a test at the site.

Scott also reminding the public that given a massive backlog of testing in the province, the priority for testing right now is to those who have symptoms or those who've had close contact with a positive case.

He said if the testing backlogs mean people are waiting 14 days to get a test result, it defeats the purpose of testing.
