Growing Needs in Our Communities

The United Way campaign in the North Okanagan Columbia Shuswap is well underway and since the September launch has been gaining momentum. In order to support the needs of the community, United Way is asking for your help to make a difference in the lives of kids, families, and seniors.

The United Way says they need the support of the community to fund programs for prenatal nutrition, youth engagement, post-partum depression and trauma counselling for women, as well as safe, enriching places for kids after-school.

"We are not sure if the postal strike is slowing down our individual donations," says Linda Yule, Executive Director of United Way NOCS. "if you are able you can give online, call us with a credit card number, we will even come pick-up a cheque. This year Nixon Wenger had a week of events and raised $2,182 for United Way - we have ideas for your business too!"
Yule says, "There are growing needs in our communities. 1 in 5 children live in poverty. We have a growing gap between the rich and the poor - over 50% of households are only 2 paycheques away from losing their car or house. 1 in 5 people live with mental illness and we have a homelessness crisis in the cities across our region - 153 people are estimated to be experiencing homelessness in Vernon alone. These issues and challenges impact all of us. And none of us knows what is around the corner."

All donations received by December 31, 2018 will get a 2018 tax receipt. For more information on the impact of your donations, visit:
