The Vernon North Okanagan Detachment’s Serious Crime Unit was in the right place at the right time. On October 7th, 2020 at approximately 3-pm, frontline officers responded to a robbery at a business in the 3000-block of 32nd Street. The suspect entered the business and demanded money. As the suspect ran from the scene, he drew the attention of the Serious Crime investigators who were driving through the downtown area.

"The suspect was running away from the scene discarding his clothing as he went in an attempt to evade capture," says Constable Chris Terleski, Media Relations Officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP.  Valuable, accurate information was passed quickly from the scene to our officers which allowed the situation to be resolved quickly and safely."

Police arrested a 28-year old Vernon man who remains in custody and is charged with robbery. Fortunately, no one was physically injured during this incident; however, it was traumatizing for those who witnessed the event.
