Thieves Visit Homes for Sale
A man and woman have been arrested after reports of jewelry being stolen during home viewings in Salmon Arm earlier this year.
“Between September 10, 2018 and October 11, 2018 the Salmon Arm RCMP received a total of seven different complaints from homeowners reporting thefts of jewellery and money from their residences, that were listed for sale in the Salmon Arm area,” says Cpl. Dan Moskaluk.
Police say the suspects posed as potential buyers at homes valued between 600-thousand and 1.2 million dollars, where it was later learned ten of thousands of dollars worth of jewellery was taken.
“Much of the jewellery has significant sentimental value with estimated losses exceeding the tens of thousands in value. The male and female suspect of no fixed address have since been located, arrested and released to attend Salmon Arm Provincial Court in the new year,” says Staff Sgt. Scott West of the Salmon Arm RCMP.
“The Salmon Arm General Investigative Section is handling the investigation with numerous charges being contemplated under the Criminal Code including Theft Under $5000, Theft Over $5000 and Possession of Stolen Property,” says West.
The couple have court dates in the new year to face theft charges.
