YMCA and H2O Pools to Open August 10
The YMCA of Okanagan will welcome swimmers back to their pools at the Kelowna Family Y and H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre starting Monday, August 10. Aquatic offerings will include open swim time, lane swimming and Aquafit classes to help community members cool off and get back to their healthy routines.
“We are excited to offer this valued service to our community once again starting next week,” says Kelley Taylor, YMCA VP of Health, Fitness and Aquatics. “Our pools don’t only provide a place for family fun; many of our members rely on pool activity as their only source of exercise. Whether it is for rehabilitation from injury, or due to chronic pain, or any mobility issue they are facing. Pools have an important role in the overall health of many.”
As a local charity devoted to building a healthier community, Y experts are encouraging a return to healthy exercise and community connection.
“We recognize that these past months have taken a toll on all of us,” says Taylor. “The lack of social connection and disruption of regular routines and habits has increased feelings of isolation and loneliness and has resulted in a significant reduction in physical activity for many.”
“We need to continue to put our community and our collective health first, but that doesn’t mean we need to put our personal health on hold,” says Taylor. “There are safe ways to get active and connect with others, while maintaining a safe physical distance — whether it’s at the Y, or in other ways. We simply want our community to know that their local YMCA centres are open and here to help.”
Taylor wants to assure the public that they are taking every precaution with the reopening of their YMCA and H2O pools to maintain a healthy and safe environment for all, which includes following recommendations from the Lifesaving Society and provincial health authorities.
The YMCA of Okanagan proudly operates the Kelowna Family YMCA, Kelowna Downtown YMCA and H2O Adventure + Fitness centre, as well as child care centres, employment programs and more.
