Boy faces charges after school bus police chase in Fredericton
A 14-year-old boy is in custody, facing a number of charges after Fredericton police had to use a spike belt to stop a stolen school bus he was driving over the weekend.
Two police vehicles were damaged when the suspect backed the bus into them, and nearly collided head-on with other vehicles during the pursuit.
Police say the chase began at 9:30 Saturday night and lasted about 1/2 an hour.
The bus was stolen from a Department of Transportation compound on Priestman Street.
The chase went from the DOT station, to the city limits in Silverwood and then back into the city in the area of Kimble Road before the bus was stopped. Police stopped the pursuit twice because it was considered too dangerous.
The boy refused to leave the bus after it was stopped and police had to break the glass out of the door of the bus.
The young man was taken into custody without incident.
