Masks required, increased seating capacity on Fredericton Transit

Fredericton Transit says masks will be required for all transit passengers effective Monday June 29.

In a release, the transit agency says the mask requirement is part of a unified operational plan created in collaboration with Codiac Transpo and Saint John Transit.

The plan was created to respond to the increase in passenger demand while also ensuring the safety of passengers and employees.

Fredericton Transit says seating capacity will be increased to up to 50% regular capacity.

Passengers can expect appropriate distance between available seats and other passengers and the operator, which includes the two seats behind the operator being blocked off.

The transit agency says mask use will be monitored, and if passengers comply, further service level increases are anticipated.

The release states the unified operational plan meets provincial COVID-19 requirements, and was created in partnership with each municipality, transit system, and the respective Municipal Emergency Command Centres.
