Red Wings take right-winger MacRitchie tenth overall in MHL Entry Draft

With their first pick of the 2020 MHL Entry Draft, the Fredericton Red Wings took right-winger Brendan MacRitchie.

A native of Sydney, N.S. 17-year-old MacRitchie scored 13 goals and posted 12 assists in 34 regular season games and had one goal and one assist in 4 playoff games with the Sydney Rush of the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League last season.

With the tenth pick of round two, Fredericton selected Anitgonish, N.S. native Cody Van de Sande (D) from the Cape Breton West Islanders, along with hometown centre Andrew Gweon in round three.

The Red Wings had two picks in the fourth round, acquiring Jake Tracey (D) of Lincoln and Matthew McRae (LW) of Quispamsis.

In Round five, the team selected Kobe Burt (RW) of Grand Falls and took Florenceville native Evan Rector (RW) in the sixth.

Fredericton acquired Halifax, N.S.'s Joseph Henneberry (C) and Sebastian Lever (G) in the seventh round.

In Round 9, the team selected hometown defenseman Malcolm Burns, along with Nathan Casey (C) of Halifax, N.S.

In the final round, the Red Wings took Connor Trenholm (C) of Dartmouth, N.S.

There were 120 players selected in the MHL Draft, which was held online this year due to COVID-19.
