Calgary Queer Arts Society

The Calgary Queer Arts Society, formerly known as Fairy Tales Presentation Society, is a nonprofit organization located in Calgary, Alberta that exists to give voice to queer people and their stories. We are producers of one of Canada’s largest LGBTQ2+ film festivals, The Fairy Tales Queer Film Festival. We began in 1999 as the only place to see queer film in Alberta. Founded by members of The Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers, the first iteration was a volunteer led two-day event, threatened with violence and protest. Today, we are one of Canada’s largest LGBTQ2+ film festivals, and a year-round arts and education organization. In addition to our festival, we offer four additional programs;

• The Youth Queer Media Program -  Education, mentorship and dissemination opportunities for emerging queer filmmakers.
• The Coming Out Monologues, YYC – An annual theatre series that supports the development and presentation of local queer stories.
• OutReels Ally-ship Training Program - Community ally-ship & diversity education. We bring workshops and screenings to offices, faith groups, schools, healthcare workers and more.
• The Ally Toolkit Conference – A multi-day conference that provides tools for ally-ship in communities and institutions.
