Famous Edmonton Metro Cinema closing down temporarily

Inside the theatre

Maybe you’ve been there for a midnight showing of The Room? Maybe you saw Parasite there? Even if you’ve never been to Metro Cinema I can bet you – you know someone who has!

The iconic Garneau Theatre will be closing its doors temporary. They provided this update:

Metro Cinema cares about the safety of our patrons and the wider community. While the update to COVID-19 restrictions on November 24th did not require any changes to our current operation, we have made the voluntary decision to close for the next three weeks in the interest of reducing the risk in our region.

Since reopening in July, we have taken great care to create a safe and physically distanced environment for film fans to gather. We can proudly say that there have been no known COVID-19 cases associated with Metro Cinema.

For those who continue to stand by indie film and local cinema, we encourage you to support our Virtual Screenings from the comfort and safety of your home. Stay tuned as we continue to add new and exciting films to the virtual roster.

We are so thankful for the ongoing devotion of Edmonton's film lovers. We are a registered charity, and are incredibly grateful to those who are able to contribute financially.

Metro Cinema will remain closed until Friday, December 18th, and will reevaluate our situation at that time. Thank you for staying home, we look forward to a bright future.
