Pantone's Newest Shade: Period Red

Periods. Time of the month. There are a thousand different names for menstruation, it's been a natural process in billions of people's bodies since the dawn of time - but there's still a stigma around periods, tampons, and the like.

Question: WHY?

Breaking down the stigma around periods won't happen overnight, but Pantone has partnered up with Intimina, a Swedish menstrual (and femme) product brand to help!

They've released a new bright red shade called "Period" which is "inspired by a steady menstrual flow" and is meant to normalize and open a conversation about menstruation and periods, which surprisingly in 2020 is still a Taboo.

Here's a blurb about what the bright red is inspired by and symbolizes:

"“An active and adventurous red hue, courageous Period emboldens people who menstruate to feel proud of who they are. To own their period with self-assurance; to stand up and passionately celebrate the exciting and powerful life force they are born with; to urge everyone regardless of gender to feel comfortable to talk spontaneously and openly about this pure and natural bodily function.”
