Sam Smith Shares 'Diamonds,' Announces Album Release
Sam Smith used the release of their single “Diamonds” on Thursday to share the news that their third album, now called Love Goes, will drop next month.
“This album marks a time of experimentation and self discovery in my life,” said Smith on social media. “I wrote this from the age of 26-28 and it’s been one hell of a ride. I hope the people who listen to it enjoy it and love it like I have and do.”
The follow-up to 2017’s The Thrill of It All is set for release on Oct. 30. The album, which was originally titled To Die For, had its June 2020 release delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
For now, fans will have to make do with the heartbreaking “Diamonds”.
“Take all the money you want from me / Hope you become what you want to be,” Smith sings. “Show me how little you care, how little you care, how little you care / You dream of glitter and gold / My heart’s already been sold / Show you how little I care, how little I care, how little I care.”
In a note they posted to Instagram, Smith explained each song on Love Goes is “a separate story.”
They explained: “Every time I went into the studio I promised myself I would shoot for the stars and have no limitations. The result has been so magical and so therapeutic and FUN. My love for music is so broad and all of my musical guilty pleasures became pleasures. No guilt, no shame, just the love of singing and creating and dancing.”
