13 Reasons Prince Harry and Meghan Markle should move to Vancouver!

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have officially announced they will be spending more time in Canada, here are the reasons Vancouver would be the perfect place to make their new home! (Caution: This article may contain ‘Dad Jokes’)

1. We’re ‘Chill’

We’re known to be pretty ‘chill’, even with the big stars that frequent our streets. Although it would be neat to see Meghan and Harry out in the city, Vancouverites aren’t the type to swarm them as they go about their day. We’re too preoccupied checking out the newest microbreweries or complaining about the 85th straight day of rain!

2. It (kinda) looks like London…

Speaking of the rain, Vancouver can resemble the streets of London with our wet and grey weather. The difference is the natural beauty of the west coast makes rain a bit more tolerable.

3. ‘Double Decker’ busses

Translink's new Double Decker busses will remind Harry and Meghan of Oxford Street. Plus, now that the Royal Couple are becoming financially independent, it might not be a bad idea to replace the chauffered limousine with a compass card!

4. Acting jobs for Meghan

Let’s be honest, “Suits” was never the same after Rachel Zane (Meghan Markle) left the show. With Vancouver’s booming film industry, Prince Harry wouldn’t have to lobby anyone for his wife to get acting gigs!

5. Hitting the Slopes

Prince Harry has been skiing at Whistler since he was a kid. Whether it’s Whistler or the local mountains, the commute to the slopes is a lot shorter when you live here!

6. Trusty Steeds

The Royals might miss the comforts of home, like taking the ‘ol horse drawn carriage for a spin! Well, Vancouver offers a fleet of horse drawn carriages through the sprawling Stanley Park. If the couple is in the betting mood, Hastings Racecourse provides the perfect excuse to dress in formal attire and watch a horse race.

7. Afternoon Tea

Our city has delectable culinary offerings, including many places to get a ‘spot of tea’. Some local favourites include Laduree and Secret Garden tea company.

8. Delicious Fish ‘n Chips

England might be known for their fish ‘n chips but Vancouver has some serious cred when it comes to the beer-battered delicacy. We are lucky enough to be neighbours with the ocean, giving us access to freshly caught, delicious seafood!

9. Bling! Bling!

Expensive jewels aren’t only found within the Buckingham Palace gates. The city has a new $4.8 million crystal chandelier under the Granville St. Bridge, not to mention the lavish cars that drive above it!

10. Local Fashion Game = Strong

It must be all that mountain air we’re getting because Vancouver is ‘fresh to death’ when it comes to fashion! Iconic brands like Herschel and Lululemon were launched here and our city continues to be a trendsetter in the fashion world.

11. Sustainable Living

Prince Harry recently launched Travalyst, a sustainable travel initiative to help reduce the global impact of travel. What better fit is there for the eco-conscious couple than our ‘green’ city?

12. Move over Riverdale, there’s a new Archie in town

The popular show, Riverdale, is filmed here with its main character… Archie! Coincidentally, the name is shared by the Royal couple’s firstborn son, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor. If that’s not a sign to move here, I don’t know what is…

13. Home of the Whales

Prince Harry is the son of the Prince and Princess of Wales… That means the family must be big fans of actual whales, right? Well, Vancouver is known for its incredible wildlife, including many different species of whales!
