A Petition has been launched to get a Baby Yoda Emoji made
Baby Yoda continues to dominate 2019, and now a man has created a Change.org petition for him to take over our phone keyboards.
The petition was created by Trav B Ryan, a self-proclaimed 'nerd & rapper' started the petition because:
Well...this is pretty self explanatory. I think Baby Yoda should be an emoji. He stole our hearts and now I want him to steal our keyboard space. Your friend shares a pic of her new born baby? Respond with a cute little Baby Yoda emoji to show that you think her little rascal is cute beyond words. You’re sick and your mom texts you “do you want some soup?” Respond back with a cute little Baby Yoda to show her that your thirst for soup is insatiable. Join me into this movement and let your voices be heard. WE WANT BABY YODA EMOJI!!!
Right now, the petition has over 14,000 signatures and will definitely surpass it's 15K signature goal very soon.
While the petition is getting a lot of online support and attention, how likely is it that we'll get a Baby Yoda emoji? Sadly, fairly slim.
Unicode, which creates the emojis used by Apple, Google and pretty much everyone, does have a place on their website to submit emoji proposals.
They do not, however, accept petitions as a formal way to propose a new emoji.
Unicode also states on their website that images themselves must have appropriate licenses so they can be used on the Unicode site, such as “public domain”, “licensed for non-commercial use”, “free to share and use”
And then there's the added issue that Baby Yoda is owned by Disney. In case you're not aware, Disney doesn't like people using their properties and likeness' for free.
Which, is a massive bummer, but at least we have a new episode of The Mandalorian coming out in a few days to fulfill all our Baby Yoda needs.
