Watch the new Ferries get unloaded today!

Island-Class-Ferries-620x420

Two of the brand new hybrid BC Ferries that arrived from Romania on a massive cargo ship last week will be unloaded today. That means this ship will head out to sea, and sink, yup. Then the ferries will float off. WOW. You can see this happen today, this morning! BC Ferries suggests the best viewing point will be the Esquimalt Lagoon and it will take several hours to do. Then the ships will be pulled via tugs to the Point Hope Maritime yard so you can see the new electric boats themselves from the Johnson Street Bridge.

Here's the timeline!

The ‘Sunrise’ – which transported the two new ferries from Romania – left Ogden Point last night and was partially submerged overnight (an 8-hr process)

It is currently anchored just off Royal Roads.

10:30am – Tug will begin pulling first ferry to Point Hope Maritime. Expected to take 1.5 hrs - so pack a snack!

The second ferry will be tugged to the shipyard between 2:30 – 4pm.
