Aaron Carter’s ex-girlfriend said Monday she didn’t break-up with the singer because he came out as bisexual.
“My split with Aaron has nothing to do with him being bisexual,” Madison Parker said in a statement to E! News. “Our parting of ways is something that has been coming for some time and it's the best thing for us both.”
Parker was responding to criticism sparked by Carter saying in interviews that their split was in response to his decision to announce on Aug. 6 that he is attracted to both men and women.
In a radio interview last week, Carter said he and Parker broke up because “she didn’t really understand it and she didn’t want [to].
“And that was it," he told The Bert Show. "So we left it mutual and parted ways.”
This week, Carter told radio host Elvis Duran that people should respect honesty — “especially the one that claims that they love you.”
He added: “She’s a good person … It’s just she didn’t accept what I was going to say and she left me.”
But, Parker said it’s unfair to accuse her of being homophobic.
“Some of my closest friends and loved ones are of the LGBTQ community, people I love and support wholeheartedly,” she said in her statement to E! News, “so for … anyone to label me 'homophobic' is appalling and hurtful and couldn't be more off character.
“I've been nothing but supportive of Aaron and his career and I'm happy for him that he's having the courage to live his truth. Breaking up is never easy for anyone, but it is my hope that we can move on from this point as peacefully and respectfully as possible. I wish him all the best.”

In the same interview with Duran, Carter addressed speculation about his health — including rumours that he is living with HIV or addicted to drugs.
Carter did, however, allude to a health issue that he shared during a taping of the syndicated daytime show The Doctors. “You’re going to see a huge reveal,” Carter said, “and you’re going to see everything.”
