It’s the morning after the American Music Awards and people are still buzzing about some of the night’s big moments.
While The Weeknd and Alessia Cara lost in their categories, Drake was named Favourite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and Shawn Mendes won Favourite Adult Contemporary Artist – and delivered a solid performance of his hit “Nothing Holding Me Back.”
MORE: AMAs winners
Keith Urban’s “Blue Ain’t Your Colour,” a song co-written by Canada’s Steven Lee Olsen, won Favourite Country Song.
Justin Bieber’s presence was also felt at the AMAs, thanks to wins by “Despacito” (Favourite Song - Pop/Rock and Collaboration of the Year) and “I’m the One” (Favourite Song - Rap/Hip-Hop)
Here’s a look at some of the best (and not-quite-the-best) moments of this year’s AMAs:
Kelly Clarkson and P!nk Duet
After Jamie Foxx opened the show by talking about some of the tragedies in recent months, Kelly Clarkson and P!nk joined voices for a version of the R.E.M. hit “Everybody Hurts.” Not only did it sound amazing but it was an effective way to start the show.
Imagine Dragons
Kudos to Imagine Dragons, a rock band with a Mormon frontman, for speaking up for LGBT equality during their acceptance speech for Favourite Pop/Rock Duo or Group.

Selena Gomez
The singer’s much-hyped performance of “Wolves” was visually interesting but she was lip-synching and, at the end, the camera caught her looking irritated or bored.
Shawn Mendes
Canadian cutie delivered a strong performance of “Nothing Holding Me Back” that had stars in the audience – including Keith Urban – singing along. He was as humble as expected when accepting his first AMA, recognizing his two competitors as inspirations.
Christina Aguilera
We know Aguilera can sing (and over-sing) so we were looking forward to her Whitney Houston medley in honour of the 25th anniversary of The Bodyguard. So, it was a disappointing that the singer was off-key and seemed to struggle – in fairness, with songs that were a challenge even for Houston.

What. Was. He. Wearing?
P!nk
The singer who loves to fly above the stage took things to new heights with a performance of “Beautiful Trauma” on the side of the JW Marriott hotel. Not only was it daring and scary but P!nk appeared to be singing live and nailed all the gravity-defying choreography. Extra points for waving to people looking on from inside their hotel rooms. (Who gets to wash footprints off the windows today?)
