Avril Lavigne has reworked her 2019 song “Warrior” as a tribute to people working essential jobs during the COVID-19 outbreak.
“Ever since our world was turned upside down a few weeks ago I’ve seen everyday people put on their armour and go into battle,” the Canadian singer wrote in a message she shared on social media. “Overnight everyone was asked to battle. Overnight everyone became Warriors.”
Lavigne said she re-recorded her Head Above Water track “to reflect our current world and all the amazing heroic things you’re all doing.”
The singer dedicated the new version of “Warrior” to “all the hospital workers, postal service people, grocery store workers, police and firemen, every single one of you who has had their world shaken.”
Lavigne will donate proceeds from the song, now titled "We Are Warriors" and available April 24, to Project Hope in support of doctors and medical staff around the world.
The singer will be part of Sunday's Stronger Together special.
