For the second time this season, a Canadian singer will be standing before the celebrity judges on American Idol.
Lauren Spencer-Smith of Nanaimo, B.C. appears on Sunday night’s episode of the competition show. The 16-year-old taped her audition in early November at the Sun River Resort in Oregon.
Spencer-Smith said she was contacted by a casting agent about appearing on American Idol, which has started accepting singers from north of the border.
The high school student is no stranger to being in front of cameras. Last year she appeared on Steve Harvey’s now defunct talk show Steve after producers saw a YouTube video of her singing “Always Remember Us This Way” from A Star Is Born.
In 2015, she joined Keith Urban on stage at Sunfest in Duncan, B.C. to duet on Bob Dylan’s Bob Dylan’s “Make You Feel my Love.”
“I’ve always known in my heart and in my head that I wanted to be a singer,” Spencer-Smith told CTV News.

Her debut album, Unplugged, Vol. 1, earned a Juno nomination for Adult Contemporary Album of the Year against releases from established artists like Bryan Adams and Marc Jordan.
Spencer-Smith can’t reveal details about her Idol audition, including whether she made it to – or through – “Hollywood Week,” which was taped in December. She told Nanaimo News Bulletin she will be watching the episode on her best friend’s “huge TV” with “so many people there.”
On the season premiere of American Idol, Saveria of London, Ont. auditioned for the judges but failed to get a golden ticket to Hollywood.
American Idol airs Sunday at 8 pm on CTV (part of the parent company of this website).
