A week before she celebrates her 18th birthday, Billie Eilish will be celebrated as the 2019 Woman of the Year at Billboard’s Women in Music event.
The singer, who was named Best New Artist at Sunday’s American Music Awards, is the youngest artist to receive the honour.
“Billie has disrupted the entertainment industry through her music and social media platforms, leaving an indelible impact on the global cultural zeitgeist,” explained Billboard editorial director Hannah Karp.
"Her ability to speak to the Gen-Z population, making teens and young adults feel accepted in today’s society has quickly allowed Eilish to grow to the top of the charts, breaking the mold for this generation with her electric hair-colour and sharp attitude.”
Previous recipients of the title include Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, Madonna and Lady Gaga.
The Dec. 12th Billboard Women in Music event, hosted by Hayley Kiyoko, will also honour Swift as the first Women of the Decade as well as Nicki Minaj (Game Changer) and Brandi Carlile (Trailblazer). Canada’s Alanis Morissette will receive the Icon award.
