Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to The Woman In Me, the best-selling memoir by Britney Spears.
John M. Chu, who is currently busy making the upcoming Wicked film adaptations, is set to direct the biopic with Marc Platt signed on to produce.
Spears cryptically tweeted about the deal, sharing her excitement for the project.
"Excited to share with my fans that I've been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt," she writes. "He’s always made my favorite movies … stay tuned 🌹🎥"
Variety reports that Universal won a bidding war for the rights to the memoir, which has sold approximately 2.5 million copies since it was released in October.
The Woman In Me attracted a lot of attention both before and after it was published due to the intimate details Spears shared in the book, such as that she was pregnant with Justin Timberlake's baby and subjected to predatory and abusive behaviour at the hands of her family and handlers.
Spears is reportedly writing a second memoir, however, it is not known if it will be part of the film.
