Britney Spears has been admitted to a mental health facility as she struggles to deal with her father’s illness.
According to TMZ, the 37-year-old pop star checked herself in to a facility “about a week ago” and will remain in treatment for 30 days.
Last November, Spears postponed her new Las Vegas residency so she could care for her father Jamie.
“A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died,” she shared on Instagram. “We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him. I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time.”
Jamie Spears has reportedly had surgeries to repair issues with his intestines and colon.
Page Six quoted a source as saying Britney “just has some very difficult emotional and mental health issues” and that she wanted “to try to deal with her issues before they get worse.”
On Wednesday, the singer posted to Instagram: “We all need to take time for a little ‘me time.’ :)”
Spears checked herself into UCLA’s Medical Center in 2007 after suffering a public meltdown. In early 2008, she was committed to the psychiatric ward on an involuntary hold.
