Britney Spears announced Friday she’s putting her upcoming Las Vegas residency Domination on hold to care for her ailing father Jamie.
“I don’t even know where to start with this, because this is so tough for me to say,” she tweeted. “I will not be performing my new show Domination. I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart.
“However, it’s important to always put your family first… and that’s the decision I had to make. A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him.”
Spears added that refunds are available at the point of purchase. “I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time,” she said. “I hope you all can understand.”
According to a statement on her website, Spears is taking "an indefinite work hiatus" so she can focus on caring for her family.
“We have a very special relationship and I want to be with my family at this time just like they have always been there for me,” she said.
Jamie Spears spent nearly a month in hospital after having surgery to repair a ruptured colon. He is currently at home and expected to make a full recovery.
In 2008, a court named Jamie the conservator of his famous daughter and a co-conservator of her estate after she suffered a mental health crisis.
Only days ago, Spears was tweeting about Domination. “See you in Vegas!!!,” she wrote on Dec. 29.
The residency was scheduled to start Feb. 13 at the Park Theatre in Park MGM.
