Canada’s Alessia Cara is a part of the biggest dance song of 2017, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) announced this week.
The Ontario singer’s collaboration with Zedd, “Stay” was the top-selling dance track of the year, reaching double platinum certification.
In the U.S., Platinum certification represents sales of 1 million. (“Stay” has achieved 4x Platinum in Canada, representing sales of 320,000.)
"Stay" is nominated in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category at this month's Grammy Awards.
Cara’s fellow Canadian Justin Bieber is featured on DJ Khaled’s “I’m The One,” the top certified R&B/Hip Hop song of 2017. It achieved 5x Platinum status.
According to the RIAA, the biggest pop song in the U.S. in 2017 was Ed Sheeran’s “Shape Of You,” which went 7x Platinum and Harry Styles had the top rock song with his Platinum-certified “Sign of the Times.”
The biggest song of the year, though, was “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi ft. Daddy Yankee, which achieved 8x Platinum status.
