Bathrooms have great acoustics and everyone sings in the shower, right? So, what songs are three of Canada’s hottest country artists belting out while they’re soaping up?
“That’s a good question,” said Dallas Smith. “When I find a good bathroom in a hotel with some really good natural reverb, that’s when I’ll sing something and goof around.”
But Smith, whose third album Side Effects came out in September, doesn’t want to name a specific song. Could it be something by Britney Spears?
“No, I’m not going to admit that,” he replied. “I’m not saying it hasn’t happened — but I’m not going to admit it.”

Tim Hicks isn’t embarrassed to share his current shower song.
“You’re going to love it,” he said, with a laugh. “Right now it’s ‘Never Surrender’ by Corey Hart.”
Hicks, who released his third album Shake These Walls in September, explained the song came back to him while he and his band were eating lunch at a St. Hubert restaurant in Cornwall, Ont.
“The last time I went to St. Hubert was in Cornwall in 1985 when that was the biggest song on the radio, so we got talking about it,” he recalled. “On the ride back I had to look it up because I was singing the one line over and over again and then everyone in the band started singing it.”

Brett Kissel approves of Hicks’ choice of a Juno-winning ballad.
“Not that I’d like to be in the shower with Tim Hicks — that’s not where I’m going with this — but I would love to hear his version of that,” he said.
And what is Kissel crooning in the can?
“You know what, it’s a great question,” he said. “It’s all about what song I’m learning at the time.”

Right now, the song is Miranda Lambert’s 2010 hit “The House That Built Me,” which Kissel will be performing for an upcoming DVD for the Country Music Association in Nashville.
“So, over the last few weeks that’s been my go-to shower song so that I can nail it in front of the camera.”
