In an interview with Rolling Stone published in March, 32-year-old Grimes spoke about how allowing herself to get pregnant meant sacrificing her body and freedom.
“It was really profound to me when I decided I was going to do it, to actually go through the act of like, y’know, unprotected sex,” she explained. “I’m just like, I have sacrificed my power in this moment. I have, like, capitulated, And I have spent my whole life avoiding that situation. I have never capitulated to anything, so it was just a profound commitment.”
It is the first child for Grimes and sixth for Musk, who has five sons – twins Griffin and Xavier and triplets Damain, Saxon and Kai – from his marriage to author Justine Wilson.
Grimes released her fifth studio album, Miss Anthropocene, in February.
