Authorities have released the police report detailing grunge singer Chris Cornell’s death in a Detroit hotel room in May. The report describes a “well defined ligature mark present on the neck/throat area” on the 52-year-old’s body. The cause of death was ruled a suicide by hanging.
A “resistance band was around Cornell’s neck and the other end was attached to a clip over the top of the bathroom door,” the report states. It was released through a Freedom of Information Act request. Cornell was found by his bodyguard, who had kicked down the door to his room at the MGM Grand Casino Hotel.
In a new tribute posted to Cornell’s Facebook page, his Audioslave bandmate Tom Morello wrote a thoughtful message and asked fans to make two pledges in Cornell’s memory.

“Chris, I love you, brother,” he wrote. “I love your unparalleled artistry. I love your smile. I love your ridiculously beautiful hair. I love your willingness to help others. I love your love of family.”
Calling upon everyone reading, Morello made a plea for everyone to look out for each other, especially in times of sadness.
“First, to pledge to offer unconditional forever support to his family, especially his three beautiful children […] Second, I’d like to ask everyone here to make a pledge to each other."
He continued: “If you ever find yourself in a moment of sadness and doubt, if you fall off the wagon, if you are depressed, if you’re in trouble, if you feel like you might slip off the tightrope of life, in that moment you can call the person sitting next to you right now, you can call me.”
