While the rest of the world celebrates and adores Taylor Swift and Beyoncé, Hole singer Courtney Love says she isn't a fan of either superstar.
In a recent interview with The Standard, the widow of Kurt Cobain and mother of Frances Bean shared some hot takes with the outlet while promoting her new eight-part BBC series, Courtney Love’s Women.
While Love was full of praise for past artists like Debbie Harry, Billie Holiday and Nina Simone, the 59-year-old didn't have the same level of respect for today's biggest female artists. Up first was Taylor Swift.
“Taylor is not important," Love admitted. "She might be a safe space for girls, and she’s probably the Madonna of now, but she’s not interesting as an artist.”
Speaking of the Material Girl, Love, who has previously questioned Madonna's validity as a relevant artist, calling her "weak," once again fired shots.
“I don’t like her and she doesn’t like me," Love said. "I loved Desperately Seeking Susan, but for the city of New York as much as her.”
From there she gave a backhanded compliment to Beyoncé, who currently sits atop the global album charts with her game-changing country record, Cowboy Carter.
“I like the idea of Beyoncé doing a country record because it’s about Black women going into spaces where previously only white women have been allowed, not that I like it much," she exclaimed. "As a concept, I love it. I just don’t like her music.”
Love even walked back admiration she previously showed for Lana Del Rey, in which she called her one of the only true musical geniuses she's ever known, besides her late husband.
“I haven’t liked Lana since she covered a John Denver song, and I think she should really take seven years off,” Love said. “Up until ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads’ I thought she was great. When I was recording my new album, I had to stop listening to her as she was influencing me too much.”
Love recently teased that she will be reuniting her band Hole during an appearance on stage with Billie Joe Armstrong in February. We'll have to wait and see if she is able to be as interesting or relevant as the targets of this latest rant.
