Footage from the dashcam of the police officers who arrested Britney Spears for driving under the influence in March has been released, showing the singer speaking “nonsensically” and suffering from “drastic mood swings.”
Spears was pulled over by the California Highway Patrol on the night of March 5 after they saw a car “traveling at high speeds and swerving.” The arresting officer claimed he “detected a distinct odour of an alcoholic beverage” coming from the car when Spears rolled down her window. “Her eyes were also red and watery, and her pupils were dilated,” he added.
USA Today reports that when Spears was pulled over by police, she denied being drunk and refused the leave the vehicle, citing that she had been “pranked and harassed in the past.”
The singer admitted to only drinking one mimosa earlier in the day day, and that she was feeling “zero” effects from it. She then allegedly said, “I could probably drink four bottles of wine and take care of you. I’m an angel.”
She also told officers that she had taken doses of Lamictal, Prozac and Adderall that day. The footage shows that the 44-year-old had an unprescribed bottle of Adderall and an empty wine glass inside her car.
According to the officer, which can be seen in video obtained by media outlets, her mood went from “confrontational and agitated to flamboyant and compliant.”
In his report, he added that Spears “also appeared to speak with a British accent at times.”
Spears refused to complete a field sobriety test, but agreed to taking two breathalyzer tests, both of which were under the legal limit in California. A Drug Recognition Evaluation was also conducted, confirmed that Spears was “under the influence” of a stimulant.
En route to have blood taken at a medical centre, Spears requested a bathroom break, in an alleged “attempt to delay” the process. The officer says she then “became argumentative and belligerent,” and placed her in handcuffs.
